Dawam is software that businesses use to schedule shifts and let employees clock in and out from their phones. This page explains, in plain words, what is stored, who can see it, and where it is kept.

The business is in charge of its employees' information

Each business decides who it adds as an employee and what it records about them. Dawam stores and protects that information for the business, and uses it only to run the service.

If you are an employee and want to see, correct or ask about your information, contact your manager. They can see and change it; we will help them if needed.

What is stored

  • About the business: its name, city and type of work, and its workplaces (name, address, the spot on the map and the allowed clock-in distance).
  • About managers: email address, and the password in a form that can't be read back.
  • About employees: name, phone number, a 4-digit PIN stored scrambled (nobody, including managers, can read it), roles, workplaces, availability, shifts, notes, and drop and swap requests.
  • When an employee clocks in or out: the time, and where their phone was at that moment (the location, how accurate it was, and the distance from the workplace), plus any note they write. Location is only read when the employee presses Clock in or Clock out; Dawam doesn't follow anyone's location at other times.
  • If someone turns on notifications: the address their browser gives for sending them, and their language and time zone, so messages arrive in the right language and time.
  • When something breaks on screen: the error message, the page it happened on (the page's path only, without anything typed into it), the type of browser, and which account or business it happened to. This is used only to fix problems.
  • On your own device, the browser keeps your sign-in, your language, number and theme choices, a copy of your schedule for when you are offline, and any clock-ins waiting to be sent.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent anyone's information, and there is no advertising.
  • We don't track employees outside the moment they clock in or out.
  • We don't look at a business's information except when it asks us to help with a problem, or when the law requires it.

Who can see what

  • Each business only sees its own information. One business can never see another's.
  • The owner and any schedulers the owner invites see the business's employees (names and phone numbers), schedules, availability, hours and the location recorded with each clock-in.
  • Employees see their own shifts, hours, availability and requests, and the business's published schedule: coworkers' names, shift times, roles and workplaces. They don't see coworkers' phone numbers, hours or locations.
  • Draft shifts are only seen by managers until they are published.

Where it is kept and how it is protected

  • The database is hosted by Supabase in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). The website is served by Vercel.
  • Everything travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and is encrypted where it is stored.
  • Maps are shown using OpenStreetMap, so your browser loads map pictures from OpenStreetMap's servers when a map is on screen.
  • Notifications pass through the push service of the phone's browser or system (for example Google, Apple or Mozilla). They carry the shift's day, time, workplace and role, or the name of the person who made a request.
  • Account emails (such as confirming an email address or resetting a password) are sent by Supabase.

Backups, archiving and leaving

The owner can download all of the business's information as a file at any time from Settings. That file holds employees' names, phone numbers and hours, so the business must keep it safe.

When someone stops working for the business, the owner archives them instead of deleting them: they can't sign in any more and their upcoming shifts become open shifts, but their past shifts, clock-ins and hours are kept for payroll. The owner can restore them at any time. Managers can delete shifts.

A business that stops using Dawam can take its backup with it. Ask us if you need the business's information removed from the service.

Changes and contact

If we change how information is handled, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell business owners about important changes.

Questions about your own information: ask your manager. Questions about Dawam itself: email abdullah0dabbagh@gmail.com.
